Replace:

Each Designer may cast one Vote on a Votable Matter by making a comment to the Official Post that comprises that Votable Matter using a voting icon of FOR, AGAINST, or DEFERENTIAL. Additional voting icons may be permitted in some cases by other rules. A valid Vote is, except when otherwise specified, a Vote of FOR or AGAINST. A Designer’s Vote on a Votable Matter is the last valid voting icon that they have used in any comment on that Votable Matter. Additionally, if the author of a Votable Matter has not used a valid voting icon in a comment to the post, then the author’s Vote is FOR. A non-Designer never has a Vote, even if they were a Designer previously and had cast a valid Vote.

Each Designer may cast one Vote on a Votable Matter by making a top-level comment to the Official Post that comprises that Votable Matter using a voting icon of FOR, AGAINST, or DEFERENTIAL. Don’t stop, never give up
Hold your head high and reach the top
Let the world see what you have got
Bring it all back to you (bring it all back)

:against: as 75th says that their vote counter will have a way of greying out superceded EVCs and will also be an automated vote counter anyway

    1. Tantusar says:

…It still needs to be justified in the rules.

    2. Tantusar says:

(also the first line of that refrain is “Dream of falling in love”)

  2. Josh says:

Why? If EVCs are highlighted then it doesn’t matter if they’re not in top-level comments. The ruleset is currently agnostic to comment-nestedness, and would remian so.

    1. Tantusar says:

The ruleset does not currently know about the automated vote counter, and I’m not entirely sure it should.

  3. Josh says:

It absolutely doesn’t need to. The ruleset doesn’t have to be kept informed of every quality-of-life tool in our kit.

I’m not seeing what in all of this necessetates a change to the rules.

  4. :for:

Greying out votes will be useful, but would still cause problems for colorblind players.

Having to look at timestamps to determine which votes are valid sounds like a giant PITA. So that is reason enough for this change.

Whereas, allowing you to vote in replies, not really sure the actual benefit gained there.

:for: I agree with Tantusar and Clucky. If non-top level comment votes don’t count, then the rules set should reflect that.

  8. :for: for now, but I will be sure to propose reverting this if the comment highlighting meets with acclaim.
