Proposal: This all seems to work [Core]

Unpopular. –Tantusar

Adminned at 24 Jul 2020 17:55:11 UTC

Repeal the rule Victory and Ascension.

Add the following as a dynastic rule to the ruleset, entitled Switch Readiness:

This rule signifies an acknowledgement that the WordPress instance of BlogNomic is functional and can be integrated into the main BlogNomic game (found at blognomic.com) as per the rules at the ruleset of the main blog (found at https://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Ruleset).

This Proposal currently does nothing. Putting “[Core]” in the title does not make a valid Core tag. A valid Core tag is one put in the Tags box in the WordPress interface. Resolved.

  2. Tantusar says:

Gaaaaah, repealing V&A rubs me the wrong way. Gotta think on this.

  3. Josh says:

V&A as written is clearly not suitable for the current purpose; we don’t want, on this trail, to be running multiple Dynasties without reconciling back with the main blog. We can set up a parallel victory mehcanism over here that crowns a “winner” of this dynasty, but we don’t need to be keeping the door open to AAs, terminology changes and the whole shebang.

  4. Zyborg says:

:def: I’m not sure I understand the ramifications of this rule to be honest.

  5. Amnistar says:

:against: Would rather have a victory condition set to be the winner of this dynasty is the winner of the game on the other side.

  6. Tantusar says:

:against: Even ignoring my misgivings about V&A, I mentioned two issues over on Slack that I think are crucial to fix before the Switch can happen. This Proposal is trying to say we’re ready. I disagree.

i think there remains one critical and one urgent issue among those we’re still tracking: the critical issue is that becoming a player needs to be more intuitive, the urgent issue is that dynasty specific styling is currently nigh-on impossible

  7. Josh says:

@Amnistar Nothing in this proposal prevents that; in fact, repealing V&A is a necessary prerequisite to that outcome.

  8. Darknight says:

What is this?

BlogNomic is an online Nomic: a self-modifying game where changing the rules is part of the game. Players make blog posts proposing additions or alterations to the ruleset, discussing and casting votes in the comments: if enough vote in favour, the rules are changed and play continues.

The game has been running since 2003 and resets every month or so. New players are always welcome and can join in at any time.

“Nomic is a game in which changing the rules is a move. In that respect it differs from almost every other game. The primary activity of Nomic is proposing changes in the rules, debating the wisdom of changing them in that way, voting on the changes, deciding what can and cannot be done afterwards, and doing it. Even this core of the game, of course, can be changed.”
